Sandvipers Capture Tournament Championship with Perfect 5–0 Run
The Sandvipers completed an undefeated tournament run Saturday night, defeating the Marauders 6–2 in the championship game to claim the victory of the 2nd PLW tournament of the year.
After advancing through pool play without giving up a single run, the Sandvipers carried their momentum into the elimination rounds. In the 6:00 p.m. semifinal, they delivered their most dominant performance of the tournament, defeating Knuckled Up 12–2 to secure their place in the championship game.
The other semifinal featured a low-scoring battle between the Marauders and Blitz. One run proved to be enough for the Marauders, who shut out the previous tournament champion Blitz 1–0 and advanced to face the Sandvipers in the final.
In the championship game, the Sandvipers continued their strong offensive performance and earned a 6–2 victory over the Marauders. The win completed a perfect 5–0 tournament record for the Sandvipers and capped off an impressive day in which they outscored their two playoff opponents 38–4.
A Sandviper roster relying heavily on out of state players Tom Gannon & Chris Proal will have to dip into local talent to fill rosters spots if they want to remain competitive as PLW continues to see the strength of it’s competition continue to improve.
