2027 League Overview

The 2027 PLW calendar includes two complete seasons: Spring Season 7 and Fall Season 8. PLW is the top level of the weeknight league system, with the PCL (Premier Challenger’s League) directly below it and the Animal Leagues serving as the primary entry and development level.

Important Dates

  • Fall Preseason League: Happening now through December 6, 2026
  • PLW Tryouts: January 16, 2027
  • PLW National Draft live on Twitch: January 17, 2027
  • Spring Season 7: January 18–June 4, 2027
  • PLW Summer Tryouts: July 10, 2027
  • Fall Season 8 Draft live on Twitch: July 11, 2027
  • Fall Season 8: July 12–December 3, 2027
  • Thanksgiving Week: No Fall Season games

PLW & PCL Season Format

Each PLW/PCL season includes:

  • 18 weeks of regular-season play
  • Two weeks of playoffs and championships
  • One three-game series per team each week
  • 54 regular-season games per team
  • 108 regular-season games per team across the full 2027 calendar

Teams generally play one three-game series on a designated weeknight from Monday through Friday.

PLW: The Top League

PLW is permanently limited to 10 teams. It will not expand beyond 10, protecting the value and competitiveness of reaching the top league.

PLW is the league’s premium media product. Every pitch of every PLW game is filmed and broadcast live on Twitch, giving players and teams full-season coverage, commentary, statistics, highlights and ongoing content.

PLW has two seasons each year, so championships, standings and roster opportunities remain active throughout most of the calendar.

PCL: The Challenger League

The Premier Challenger’s League, or PCL, operates directly next PLW and follows the same game rules & seasonal calendar.

The PCL also has its own teams and gives players and owners a structured path toward reaching PLW that choose to. The PLW and PCL postseason systems connect through promotion and relegation, allowing successful PCL teams to compete for an opportunity to move into the 10-team PLW or stay in PCL

PCL games are played on the side fields alongside the PLW weeknight schedule. They receive recorded coverage and selected media exposure, although they do not receive PLW’s complete premium Twitch broadcast treatment & have a little more relaxed game play.

Animal Leagues

Animal Leagues are PLW’s flexible entry-level and developmental leagues. They provide a place for new players, developing players, recreational teams and PLW/PCL players seeking additional playing time. Based on popularity/demand, a given league night could be exact PLW rules or full COED rules.

The planned single-night leagues include:

  • Monday: Monkey League
  • Tuesday: Taco League
  • Wednesday: Walrus League
  • Thursday: Turkey League
  • Friday: Fanta League

Each Animal League season lasts 10 weeks, consisting of:

  • Nine regular-season weeks
  • One playoff week

Animal Leagues can operate four seasons per year. Their rosters are more flexible and are not permanently locked from season to season.

They are also separate from PLW/PCL promotion and relegation. Their main purpose is to help players gain experience, build statistics, establish their reputation and potentially earn future opportunities in the PCL or PLW.

PLW and PCL teams maintain continuing rosters from season to season. New players can enter the system through the January or July tryout and draft process, while Animal Leagues provide the most accessible starting point for many new players and teams.
